Former Penn State Wrestler David Evans Transfers to Maryland for 2025 Season
April 25, 2025
Former Penn State wrestler David Evans has announced that he will continue his collegiate wrestling career at the University of Maryland beginning in the 2025 season. The move marks a significant addition for the Terrapins as they continue to build a competitive program in the Big Ten.
Evans, who competed at 141 pounds for the Nittany Lions, made the news official on his social media earlier this week. “Grateful for my time at Penn State — the relationships, the lessons, and the memories will stay with me forever,” he shared. “But I’m excited for what’s ahead. Can’t wait to get to work with Maryland Wrestling and help take this program to new heights.”
While Evans never held a regular starting spot in Penn State’s stacked lineup, he impressed in duals and open tournaments with his technical skill and relentless motor. Now, at Maryland, he’s expected to step into a larger role and potentially be a key figure in the Terrapins’ lineup.
Maryland head coach Alex Clemsen has been focused on recruiting and developing gritty, high-upside talent to make the Terps more competitive in a tough conference — and Evans fits that mold perfectly.
“David brings Big Ten experience, toughness, and a team-first mentality,” said Clemsen in a statement. “He’s the kind of athlete we want in our room.”
The wrestling world will be watching to see how Evans adapts to his new team, but one thing’s certain — the former Nittany Lion is ready to roar as a Terrapin.
From blue and white to red and black, a new chapter begins for David Evans in College Park.
