New York City native Avellini was a standout quarterback for Maryland. Avellini was selected by the Bears in the sixth round of the 1975 draft. Avellini was well-known for collaborating with renowned athletes In 1977, Walton Payton led the Bears to the postseason.
Avellini was primarily used as a backup quarterback in the early 1980s and was a member of the Bears through the first part of the 1984 season. He became a member of the Jets in November of 1984. Although he did not play for the Dallas Cowboys in 1985, he did play again in 1986. Before the College cut him, he participated in three preseason games for them.
Had Avellini been alive today, her career would have been abysmal. Over twice as many interceptions as touchdowns were returned by him. 33 touchdowns, 69 interceptions, and 7,111 passing yards were his career totals.
Avellini’s life became more problematic once he left the league. He provided assistance to Chicagoland charity. He received a sentence. sentenced to eighteen months in jail for a third-time severe DUI in 2014.
