Coach Kim English Confronts ‘Pitiful, Embarrassing’ Season After Providence’s Early Big East Exit
Story:
In a candid and emotional postgame address, Providence Friars head coach Kim English did not hold back after his team’s 75–69 loss to Butler in the opening round of the Big East Tournament. With the defeat, the Friars concluded their season with a disappointing 12–20 record, marking a significant regression from the previous year’s performance.
English described the season as “pitiful” and “embarrassing,” taking full responsibility for the team’s struggles. He emphasized that the issues stemmed from a lack of consistency and discipline, highlighting problems like poor rebounding, ineffective offensive strategies, and defensive lapses.
“That falls on me, and the work to correct it begins,” English stated resolutely.
The Friars faced significant challenges throughout the season, including the loss of star forward Bryce Hopkins to a knee injury that sidelined him for the majority of the year. Despite these setbacks, English remained committed to rebuilding the program, vowing to address the team’s shortcomings and restore Providence to its competitive stature in the Big East Conference.
As the offseason approaches, the Friars will look to regroup and refocus, with English’s leadership and determination serving as a cornerstone for the team’s future endeavors.
