Suspect Escapes Custody After Arrest in Connection with Louisville Homicide
Louisville, KY — In a dramatic turn of events, William Irvin, 18, who had been arrested in connection with a deadly September shooting in Louisville, has escaped custody following his apprehension.
Irvin was taken into custody Wednesday after a foot pursuit with Louisville Metro Police in the 1400 block of Dixie Highway. He was charged with the murder of 18-year-old Jerrick Young, who was fatally shot last month in the city’s Algonquin neighborhood. LMPD Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell confirmed that Irvin had been arrested on a warrant but managed to flee police custody shortly after his capture.
The incident leading to Irvin’s arrest occurred on Friday, Sept. 13, when police responded to a shooting in the 1600 block of Dixie Highway around 2:30 p.m. Officers found Young, who had been shot outside the JJ Food Mart. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported that Young had just exited the store when the shooting occurred.
Authorities are now engaged in a city-wide search for Irvin, who remains at large. Police are asking for the public’s help in locating him and have warned that he should be considered dangerous.
LMPD has set up a dedicated hotline for tips, and anyone with information on Irvin’s whereabouts is urged to contact authorities immediately.
