Breaking News: Utah Roars To Standstill As A Bronze Statue Of Derek Hough Is Unvield

Derek Hough Honored with Bronze Statue in Hometown Celebration

Award-winning dancer, choreographer, and television personality Derek Hough was immortalized in bronze this weekend, as his hometown of Salt Lake City unveiled a stunning statue in his honor during a public ceremony attended by fans, family, and fellow entertainers.

The 8-foot-tall statue, located at the entrance of the Capitol Theatre—where Hough first performed as a child—captures the six-time Dancing with the Stars champion mid-pose in a dynamic ballroom stance. Sculpted by renowned artist Alison Meyer, the work highlights Hough’s fluid movement, precision, and charisma, paying tribute to his decades-long influence on dance and the performing arts.

“This is one of the most surreal moments of my life,” said Hough during the unveiling. “To be honored in this way, in the place where it all started for me, is beyond humbling. I hope this statue inspires young dancers to dream big and keep moving forward.”

The event featured performances by local dance groups and former DWTS partners, including a surprise tribute from his sister Julianne Hough, who co-choreographed a piece reflecting the siblings’ journey from local studios to global stages.

Mayor Erin Mendenhall declared June 14th “Derek Hough Day,” praising his contributions to the arts and his philanthropic work through the Hough Foundation, which funds dance education in underprivileged communities.

The statue is now a permanent fixture in downtown Salt Lake, where fans are already flocking for photos and to honor one of Utah’s brightest stars.
