Danica Patrick Opens Up About Breast Implant Illness, Embraces Natural Healing and Body Confidence
Former IndyCar and NASCAR star Danica Patrick continues to inspire women around the world by sharing her personal journey with breast implant illness (BII) — a condition that led her to undergo explant surgery in 2022.
In a candid interview, Patrick reflected on the symptoms she experienced for years, including fatigue, hormone imbalances, weight gain, and unexplained inflammation. After extensive research and frustration with unanswered medical concerns, she chose to have her implants removed.
> “Once they were out, it felt like I could breathe again — not just physically, but emotionally,” she previously shared.
Body Confidence and Liberation
Since her surgery, Patrick has emphasized the importance of body autonomy, natural beauty, and wellness over aesthetics. While she has not specifically used the phrase “free the nipples” in a public campaign, she has encouraged women to embrace their natural selves and reject societal pressure to conform to beauty standards.
> “What I’ve learned is that being comfortable in your own skin is far more powerful than any enhancement,” she said in a 2023 wellness podcast.
Patrick, who now runs her own wine label and wellness brand, remains a passionate advocate for health transparency and women’s empowerment.
