Gerardo “Tata” Martino has officially stepped down as head coach of Inter Miami CF, citing personal reasons for his departure. The announcement comes after a dramatic season filled with both groundbreaking successes and a disappointing playoff exit.
Martino, who took charge in June 2023, led the club to its first major trophies—winning the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield. Under his leadership, Inter Miami set a new MLS single-season points record with 74 points.
Despite these triumphs, the season ended in frustration after Inter Miami was knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by Atlanta United. Following the loss, Martino thanked the club and its supporters, stating that the decision to leave was based on personal priorities that needed his full attention.
In response to the vacancy, Inter Miami has appointed former Argentina star Javier Mascherano as the new head coach. Mascherano, who previously coached Argentina’s U-20 squad, now inherits a team packed with global talent—including Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
As the team prepares for a high-stakes 2025 season, including appearances in the MLS and the FIFA Club World Cup, all eyes are on Mascherano to lead Inter Miami into a new era while building on the legacy Martino leaves behind.
