Providence Friars head coach Kim English is taking a hard look at his program after a disappointing 2024–25 season, which ended with a 75–69 loss to Butler in the first round of the Big East Tournament. The defeat marked the Friars’ 20th loss of the season—their worst record since the mid-1980s.
English, who completed his second year at the helm, did not mince words in his postgame remarks.
“We played true to the pitiful, embarrassing season we’ve had,” he said, taking full responsibility for the team’s performance. He emphasized the need for a cultural reset, focusing on fundamentals like boxing out and guarding shooters, and identifying players committed to building a winning program.
Despite the setbacks, English remains committed to turning the program around. In April 2024, he signed a six-year contract extension, signaling the college’s confidence in his long-term vision. The Friars have already made moves to bolster their roster, securing commitments from transfer players, including UCF guard Jaylin Sellers, who brings size, tenacity, and shooting ability to the backcourt.
As the offseason begins, English’s focus is clear: instill a culture of accountability and resilience to restore the Friars’ standing in the Big East Conference.
