April 26, 2025 —
In an inspiring crossover between sports and film, Stanford volleyball standout Kami Miner has won a Netflix Documentary Award for her feature, “Setting the Standard,” a deeply personal look at her journey through collegiate athletics, leadership, and mental resilience.

The documentary, which premiered earlier this year on Netflix, quickly became a sensation among sports fans and general audiences alike. It chronicled Miner’s rise from a promising high school athlete to one of the most decorated setters in NCAA history, highlighting her battles with injuries, the pressure of expectations, and her commitment to inspiring the next generation of female athletes.

At the Netflix Documentary Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, Miner delivered an emotional acceptance speech.
“This project was about more than volleyball,” Miner said. “It was about showing young women everywhere that their dreams are valid, that leadership can look different, and that vulnerability is strength. I’m incredibly honored to share this award with everyone who believed in the story we told.”

Critics praised “Setting the Standard” for its authenticity and cinematic style, with several outlets already calling it “a must-watch for any sports fan” and “one of the most powerful athlete documentaries of the decade.”

Miner, who recently announced her return to Stanford for the 2025 volleyball season, hinted that her passion for storytelling might continue even after her playing days are over.
“This is just the beginning,” she smiled.
