BREAKING NEWS: Bronze Statue Honoring Bowling Legend Diandra Asbaty Unveiled in Hometown Ceremony

Bowling fans, sports legends, and community leaders gathered in downtown Chicago today for the emotional unveiling of a bronze statue honoring Hall of Fame bowler Diandra Asbaty, a trailblazer in women’s professional bowling and global ambassador for the sport.

The life-size statue, located just outside the entrance to the International Bowling Museum’s Midwest annex, captures Asbaty mid-swing in her signature release—right foot pointed, wrist strong, and eyes laser-focused on the pins. Sculpted by renowned artist Elena Martinez, the monument pays tribute to a woman who redefined excellence in bowling over two decades.

“A Champion On and Off the Lanes”

Asbaty, now 44, is widely considered one of the most influential figures in modern bowling. She is a two-time World Champion, former Team USA anchor, and the 2012 USBC Queens Champion. But beyond her titles, Asbaty has been a tireless advocate for youth development and women in sports.

“Diandra inspired an entire generation to believe that greatness isn’t just about trophies—it’s about impact,” said USBC President Melissa McDaniel during the ceremony. “This statue is not just for Diandra, it’s for every girl who picked up a bowling ball because of her.”

Choking back tears, Asbaty addressed the crowd:

> “Bowling has taken me all over the world, but Chicago has always been my home. I’m honored, I’m humbled, and I’m filled with gratitude. May this statue remind every dreamer that no dream is too small to chase.”

Community Tribute and National Recognition

Hundreds of fans attended the event, including youth bowlers from across the country. The celebration featured a symbolic “first roll” on a temporary outdoor lane set up beside the statue, where Asbaty bowled a perfect strike with a special gold-plated ball.

The city has officially declared June 21st as ‘Diandra Asbaty Day’, marking the occasion for years to come.

Legacy Beyond the Lanes

In addition to her illustrious career, Asbaty co-founded the “IAB Training Academy,” a mentorship program for female bowlers, and has served as an ambassador for the Special Olympics and Girls in the Game.

“She’s our Serena, our Simone Biles of the lanes,” said fellow bowler and mentee Maria Rodriguez. “This statue cements her place not just in bowling history, but in sports history.”
