Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Hythe Collision; Lorry Driver Due for Sentencing
Hythe, Kent — June 7, 2025
A serious road traffic collision involving a lorry and a motorcycle near Hythe has left one man hospitalized with significant injuries. Emergency services were called to the scene just three days ago on a major A-road outside the town, where the incident forced the closure of the road in both directions for several hours.
Kent Police and paramedics responded swiftly to reports of a crash between a heavy goods vehicle and a motorbike shortly after 8:00 a.m. The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was treated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. His injuries, while serious, are not believed to be life-threatening.
According to witnesses, the lorry appeared to cross into the motorcyclist’s lane while negotiating a bend, leading to a head-on impact. A police spokesperson confirmed that the lorry driver, a 49-year-old man from Folkestone, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Following an initial investigation and roadside drug and alcohol testing, authorities have confirmed that the driver has since been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He is scheduled to appear at Canterbury Crown Court later this month for sentencing.
“We are grateful to members of the public who came to the motorcyclist’s aid and who have provided dashcam footage to assist our investigation,” said Sergeant Rachel Kent from the Roads Policing Unit.
The incident has renewed local calls for enhanced safety measures along that stretch of road, which residents claim has become increasingly hazardous due to a rise in HGV traffic and limited visibility at junctions.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or dashcam footage taken between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the day of the collision.
