BREAKING: Penn State’s Aaron Brooks Receives One-Year Suspension After Positive Substance Test; Appeal Filed Citing Medical Use

University Park, PA – [Date]

Penn State wrestling star Aaron Brooks, a four-time NCAA champion and U.S. Olympic team member, has been issued a one-year suspension by the NCAA after testing positive for a banned substance. However, the university has filed an appeal, stating that the substance was taken for legitimate medical purposes and was properly prescribed.

The positive test reportedly came from a routine screening in late May. While the specific substance remains undisclosed, university officials emphasized that Brooks had been using the medication under the supervision of a licensed physician and in compliance with medical guidelines.

> “Aaron has always been a model student-athlete and leader in our program,” said Penn State Athletics in a statement. “The substance detected was part of a prescribed treatment plan, and we have submitted comprehensive documentation to the NCAA demonstrating this. We strongly support Aaron and have filed an appeal on his behalf.”

Brooks also addressed the situation in a public statement:

> “This has been a devastating experience. I’ve never knowingly taken anything illegal or unethical. The medication I was prescribed was for a medical condition I’ve been managing responsibly with my doctors. I’m thankful for Penn State’s support as we work through this appeal.”

The NCAA’s decision to impose the suspension has raised questions about inconsistencies in therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs), especially for student-athletes managing medical conditions. If the appeal is successful, Brooks could be cleared to compete in both collegiate and Olympic events later this year.

Until a ruling is made, the suspension remains in effect. A final decision is expected within the next 60 days.
