Stephanie Abrams Donates $3 Million to Transform Abandoned Florida Property into Homeless Shelter, Fulfilling Late Mother’s Wish
Miami, FL – In a deeply personal and inspiring act of philanthropy, renowned meteorologist Stephanie Abrams has donated $3 million to convert an abandoned property in Miami into a state-of-the-art shelter for the homeless. The move honors the legacy of her late mother, who was a lifelong advocate for those experiencing housing insecurity.
Abrams, a longtime face of The Weather Channel, made the emotional announcement at a press event surrounded by community leaders and nonprofit partners. “My mother taught me that helping others is not just a duty—it’s a privilege,” Abrams said. “This shelter is about more than housing—it’s about hope, safety, and second chances.”
The facility, which will be named “Lucille’s Haven” in honor of her mother, will focus on providing shelter for single mothers and their children, with services that include career counseling, mental health support, childcare, and transitional housing assistance.
Abrams’ generous donation will fully fund the initial restoration of the 10,000-square-foot property, as well as cover operational costs for the first 18 months. She has also pledged ongoing support through a foundation she is establishing to continue her mother’s mission.
The shelter is expected to open in early 2026, with renovations starting this fall. The initiative has already attracted local volunteers and additional donations from businesses and individuals inspired by Abrams’ generosity.
Stephanie Abrams has long used her platform to promote science education and public safety, but this marks her most personal and profound effort yet to make a lasting difference. “This is about turning grief into action,” she added. “And my mom would be proud.”
