SO SAD: 30 Minutes Ago, Don Prudhomme AKA “The Snake” Hospitalized at Age 84 After Sudden Illness

Los Angeles, CA –
Fans of drag racing legend Don Prudhomme were met with concern today as his family released a statement confirming that the 84-year-old former NHRA Funny Car champion was hospitalized earlier this morning after experiencing a mild fever and fatigue.

According to family spokesperson Lisa Harding, Prudhomme began feeling unwell late last night. “He had a low-grade fever and was feeling more tired than usual, so we didn’t want to take any chances,” she said. “Given his age and past health history, we felt it was best to have him evaluated right away.”

Doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles have described Prudhomme’s condition as stable and have kept him overnight for observation. Preliminary tests have ruled out anything serious, but additional lab work is ongoing to ensure his safety and comfort.

Known as “The Snake,” Don Prudhomme is widely recognized as one of drag racing’s most iconic figures. His decades-long rivalry with Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen helped elevate the sport in the 1970s, and his career as both driver and team owner earned him a lasting legacy in motorsports history.

Fans from around the world have taken to social media to send their well-wishes, using hashtags like #PrayersForTheSnake and #NHRALegend. The family says they are grateful for the support and will provide updates as Prudhomme’s condition improves.

“Don’s a fighter,” said a longtime friend. “He’s beaten tougher battles than this. We’re confident he’ll be back on his feet soon.”
