Alex Palou Makes History as First Spaniard to Win the Indianapolis 500

In a groundbreaking moment for motorsport, Álex Palou has etched his name into history by becoming the first Spaniard to win the iconic Indianapolis 500. The 28-year-old Chip Ganassi Racing driver delivered a masterclass in strategy and speed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, outpacing a competitive field in the 109th running of the event.

Palou’s victory not only marks a personal triumph but also a national milestone, completing Spain’s motorsport “Triple Crown” alongside Fernando Alonso’s victories at Monaco and Le Mans. His win at Indy is the culmination of a dominant 2025 season, which has seen him secure five wins and a second-place finish in the first six races. He now leads the NTT IndyCar Series championship with 306 points—an impressive 115 points ahead of his closest rival, Pato O’Ward.

The victory further cements Palou’s status as a generational talent and solidifies his position as one of the sport’s elite. With three championship titles already under his belt, he’s on track for a fourth—an achievement that would place him among the legends of IndyCar racing.

As the season continues, all eyes are on Palou to see if he can maintain his momentum and cap off what is already a historic year for both himself and

Spain.
