Clemson, SC โ August 2025
In a move thatโs generating buzz across Tiger Nation, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has reached out to one of the programโs most revered legends โ Terry Kinard โ to return to campus as a special advisor and mentor for the Tigersโ young secondary.
Kinard, a College Football Hall of Famer and cornerstone of Clemsonโs 1981 National Championship team, will work closely with the Tigersโ safeties throughout preseason camp and key stretches of the season. The goal: sharpen the unit’s fundamentals, elevate football IQ, and infuse the locker room with championship DNA.
> โTerry Kinard is Clemson,โ Swinney said at Wednesdayโs press conference. โHe understands what it means to wear that jersey. I wanted our young guys to hear from someone whoโs walked it, lived it, and excelled at the highest level.โ
Kinardโs visit isnโt just about Xโs and Oโs โ itโs about culture. The Tigers, coming off a challenging season, are emphasizing leadership, pride, and legacy heading into 2025. Players like Kylon Griffin and Robert Billings are expected to benefit from Kinardโs mentorship on and off the field.
> โWhen Coach called, I didnโt hesitate,โ Kinard said. โClemson gave me everything. Itโs my honor to give back and help build the next generation of greats.โ
Fans can expect to see Kinard on the sidelines, in film rooms, and speaking to the team during key moments throughout the season.
With a legend back in the building, the Tigersโ defense may have just found the spark it needs to return to national prominence.
