Victor Scott II Donates to Transform Vacant House into Shelter for the Needy in St. Louis
St. Louis, MO – May 2025
St. Louis Cardinals rookie sensation Victor Scott II is making headlines off the field for his latest act of compassion—donating $250,000 to convert a vacant property on the city’s north side into a transitional shelter for unhoused families and individuals.
The project, titled “Victor’s Home Plate,” aims to provide safe temporary housing, meals, and career support services for those experiencing homelessness in the St. Louis area. The two-story brick home, previously abandoned for over a decade, will be completely renovated through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity and local nonprofit Gateway Hope Alliance.
“I’ve been incredibly blessed with the opportunity to play the game I love,” said Scott in a press conference announcing the initiative. “But I never forget where I come from, and I know what it means to struggle. This is about giving people a second chance—just like I had.”
The shelter will feature five family units, a common dining area, and space for counseling and job training workshops. It is scheduled to open by Thanksgiving 2025.
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol praised Scott’s character: “Victor’s heart is as impressive as his speed on the bases. He’s setting an example for what it means to be a true role model.”
Community leaders and fans have applauded the young center fielder, whose breakout season on the field has been matched by a powerful commitment to change lives in St. Louis.
“Victor’s Home Plate isn’t just a shelter,” said Gateway Hope Alliance director Denise Roland. “It’s a symbol of hope, opportunity, and what can happen when athletes use their platforms to uplift others.”
Construction is set to begin this summer.
