NWS Honors Dale Earnhardt’s Legacy as NASCAR All-Star Week Approaches

NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — On what would have been Dale Earnhardt’s 74th birthday, North Wilkesboro Speedway is celebrating the life and legacy of one of NASCAR’s most iconic figures. The “Intimidator’s” legacy is forever linked with the storied short track, where he captured five unforgettable victories and thrilled generations of racing fans.

As NASCAR gears up for the 2025 All-Star Race Week, running May 15–18, the Speedway is spotlighting three of Earnhardt’s most memorable North Wilkesboro wins — each a testament to his relentless drive and commanding presence on the track.

In April 1987, Earnhardt dominated the First Union 400, leading 319 of 400 laps and outpacing Kyle Petty in a display of pure racing excellence. September 1991 saw Earnhardt halt Harry Gant’s winning streak, seizing victory in the final nine laps in a gutsy, clutch performance. Then, in April 1995, the veteran outdueled rising star Jeff Gordon, proving that the “Man in Black” still reigned supreme in one of NASCAR’s most symbolic generational showdowns.

With his five career wins at North Wilkesboro, Earnhardt’s legacy continues to inspire fans and drivers alike. The Speedway stands today not only as a racing venue but as a living monument to NASCAR history and its greatest heroes.

This year’s NASCAR All-Star Race Week promises unmatched excitement with eight races packed into four days. Highlights include the zMAX CARS Tour, the Window World 250 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race, a Saturday night Jake Owen concert, and Sunday’s All-Star Open, Whelen Modified Series FaithFest 150, and the All-Star Race itself.
