Joey Logano Responds After Disqualification at Talladega: “It’s the Right Thing”

Talladega, AL — April 28, 2025 — Following a dramatic turn of events at the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR Cup Series driver Joey Logano has broken his silence after being disqualified post-race due to a technical infraction.

Logano initially crossed the line in fifth place, but a post-race inspection revealed a loose bolt on the rear spoiler of his No. 22 Team Penske Ford Mustang. NASCAR officials deemed the car noncompliant with regulations regarding spoiler assembly, resulting in a full disqualification and a drop to 39th place in the final standings.

In the aftermath, Logano accepted the ruling with measured words: “It’s the right thing. There’s no arguing it. Right? It’s like if you wreck someone and you go up and you say, ‘You’re sorry.’ Does it change the result? No. But does it make it a little better? Yeah, I guess it’s a little better.”

Team Penske confirmed the infraction was unintentional, explaining that one of the 18 bolts securing the rear spoiler had come loose during the course of the race. Despite the oversight, the team chose not to appeal the decision, stating they respect NASCAR’s commitment to enforcing competition standards.

The disqualification not only impacted Logano’s result but also shuffled the race’s top finishers—most notably boosting Austin Cindric into victory lane for his first win of the 2025 season.

While the setback is significant, Logano remains focused on the season ahead. “You take the hit, learn from it, and move forward,” he said. “That’s racing.”

The incident marks the latest in a string of enforcement actions by NASCAR, as the organization continues to uphold its zero-tolerance approach to post-race technical violations.
