Headline: NASCAR Honors Davey Allison’s Legacy with Emotional Tribute at Talladega
TALLADEGA, Ala. — NASCAR paid tribute to one of its most beloved legends, Davey Allison, during the April 2025 race weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Driver Joey Gase honored the late racing icon by driving a No. 28 Ford Mustang featuring Allison’s classic 1993 Texaco Havoline paint scheme.
The tribute was more than just a nostalgic nod — it also highlighted Allison’s legacy as an organ donor. After Allison’s tragic death in a helicopter crash at Talladega in 1993, his organs were donated, saving the lives of four people. Gase, whose mother was also an organ donor, used the occasion to raise awareness for organ donation during National Donate Life Month.
“When Davey passed, his family knew if he could no longer continue his life, he would want to do whatever he could to help others continue theirs,” said Gase. “I want to show he was a hero both during his lifetime and after.”
Liz Allison, Davey’s widow, voiced her appreciation: “I am very honored and proud for Davey to be remembered in this way, especially at our home track. Davey loved racing at Talladega and always loved to hear the fans cheering for him, as the hometown favorite.”
The tribute was part of a full weekend of events celebrating Allison’s impact, including the induction of Joey Logano into the Talladega Walk of Fame at Davey Allison Memorial Park. Fans enjoyed food trucks, live music, and a heartfelt ceremony in memory of one of Alabama’s greatest sports heroes.
With 19 career Cup Series wins, including the 1992 Daytona 500, Davey Allison’s legacy continues to inspire generations of NASCAR fans.
