Bryce Hopkins Transfers to St. John’s, Shaking Up the Big East Power Structure
In a major development for Big East basketball, former Providence Friars star forward Bryce Hopkins has officially committed to St. John’s University. The news was confirmed by Red Storm head coach Rick Pitino, signaling a seismic shift in the conference’s competitive landscape.
Hopkins, who began his collegiate career at Kentucky before transferring to Providence, has battled knee injuries in recent seasons, limiting him to just 17 games over the past two years. Despite the setbacks, he put up strong numbers during his time with the Friars, averaging 15.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in 50 starts.
Coach Pitino expressed excitement about the addition, calling Hopkins “a passionate, high-character player with a relentless work ethic.” Hopkins becomes the second major transfer for St. John’s this offseason, joining Arizona State guard Joson Sanon, who averaged 11.9 points as a freshman.
Hopkins’ transfer is not only a significant roster boost for St. John’s, but it also intensifies the rivalry within the Big East. With Hopkins now wearing red and white, the next matchup between the Red Storm and the Friars promises to be must-watch bask
