NASCAR Issues Triple Penalty to Cup Series Team Following Nashville Incident
NASCAR has announced a triple penalty against the No. 77 Spire Motorsports team after an on-track incident involving driver Carson Hocevar during the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. The penalties include a $50,000 fine, a deduction of 25 driver points for Hocevar, and a 25-point penalty for the team.
The incident occurred on June 30, 2024, when Hocevar made contact with Harrison Burton under caution, causing Burton’s car to spin. NASCAR cited violations of Sections 4.4B and 10.5.2.6.D of the NASCAR Rule Book, which pertain to the Member Code of Conduct and safety regulations.
These penalties have impacted Hocevar’s standing in the NASCAR Cup Series, dropping him from 22nd to 24th in the driver points standings.
In a statement, Hocevar acknowledged the penalties and expressed respect for NASCAR’s decision, though he suggested there might be more context to the incident.
This enforcement underscores NASCAR’s commitment to maintaining safety and sportsmanship on the track.
